Be a 100%'er

Plato once said, "The first and best victory is to conquer self." If we but learn to do this one task think of what mankind could accomplish. As I viewed N. Eldon Tanners talk I was greatly impressed by his words used to describe, what he called, a "100%'er" and how to giver our very best to what we say we will do so as to prove worthy before the Lord in the last day. I can't help but tie this into running a business one day. How remarkable and it is to be taught about integrity now in our crazy lives where it is so easy to cheat, steal and lie without anyone even knowing. The readings this week seemed long and confusing this week. The article, So You Want to be an Entrepreneur  did say some good stuff regarding how to start. First is to know the competitive structure of the industry. This is proven most valuable because it will give us the ability to "spot/size an extraordinary opportunity when you see one." My favorite point given was, "Be a

To start off I will just say that the 22 minute video titled, 'A Hero's Journey' was outstanding! The speaker was inspiring as I felt his sincerity when he said, "We are destined to change the world." At one point in the video he asked us to ask 5 people we know well, "What do I do better than anyone else in the world?" I immediately called the first person that came to my mind, my mom. As she shared her thoughts with specific examples and evidence I felt very grateful for this exercise. The two things she said that I did better than anyone else in the world was my empathy, and determination to do what I say i'm going to do. I currently am in the process of finishing this exercise so I will update you on the synthesized information later on. My recent step in gaining mentors has been to take a picture of one climbing and putting this on my vision board. For those who don't know what a vision board is, it's pictures that you print out that rem

What I've learned and experienced so far this week: This week my mind has been surprisingly calm and content. What makes this ironic is because my dad and sister have been down in Rexburg to visit me. So instead of doing the usual homework school grind, we have been partying! It was wonderful to see my sister Allison especially :) This week hasn't been all just movies, car searching, and junk food (although that was a lot of what went on). I've had a lot of time to think during these hours together and the principle of decisiveness and making choices has been on my mind. Jeff Hawkins says, "Success is not always about working harder, it's about making the right decisions." I know that spending time with my family this week was the right choice. I also know that it is the right choice to take seriously your education and not procrastinate you homework. One may say, "How can it be possible that you can do both, spend time with your family, and do your s

A week of learning

Listening to Acton Hero: Ken Zolot was a great experience for me as he spoke of his relentlessness, and devilish curiosity as a child. My childhood has not always been remembered as the great knowledge I learned, but more of the challenges I took, fights I decided to pick, and sports that I played. Relating to Ken in this way also caused me to have great interest in what he spoke of next. "Question that a successful Entrepreneur would be, Who cares and why? Who are these people(customers) and what is going on inside their lives. What is keeping them up at night?" These questions helped us show more empathy and genuineness in the lives of those we serve. After reading about 'The Formula', taught in the Ministry of Business book I took action this week in waking up earlier. On Thursday morning I woke up at 7:00 AM went on a run, it was a great opportunity to show my willingness to work hard and apply what I had learned this week. Lastly, my spirit was reminded and under
