What motivates/drives me to feel important?

Course concepts that resonated with you this week = Woody Woodward's book  Your Emotional Fingerprint  asks the question, "What motivates and drives me to feel important? As I listened to this week's video by Jim Ritchie and was asked this question I felt a sense of responsibility to sincerely ask myself this question. Taylor Richards video  Think Big  was exceptional. I enjoyed his personal experience of winning two different awards based upon company's extraordinary success. This two concepts seemed to really do it for me this week. (https://vimeo.com/27928168) Do Watch ! Individual learning experiences = To be honest, this week I found myself experiencing two profound things that strengthened me. First, the importance of being grateful. Earlier this week I was told in the late evening by a very good friend that for my own personal growth I needed to recognize the good things around me. I'm privileged to be schooled at an incredible university, my relations

Persistence and Greatness

This week I found myself giving a training on leadership to the club I help direct here on BYU-Idaho campus. The training was a topic that a friend had shared with me and had just resonated with me. I used the visual below to represent how many organizations work. Each authoritative figure representing each dot and each arrow representing their progress.  What then changes when we change the arrows? Following this brief, yet what I felt was a profound principle was an incredibly creative discussion on practical inspirational ways to build our club into something better. I walked out of that meeting feeling happier and more confident in Life Skills Club. According to the author Jim Collins, 'good is the enemy of great.' It is good to laugh and have fun, I love being entertained and having a good laugh, but it is better to do my home teaching and succor a struggling brother/sister given the two options. A very wise man I met with this week spoke to me about what h

We can either become Bitter, or Better!

The readings were brilliant this week! I loved President/Sister Holland at the time, when they shared about visions and dreams. As an entrepreneur, I believe, you become one because of a dream you have. Like Abraham Lincoln, I have a dream too. A dream to change the world through healthier eating. In the book, "A filed guide for the Hero's Journey" the question is asked; do you think there is anything worth risking your life for? For me the Gospel of Jesus Christ is an obvious answer on what i'd be willing to live for, but also if necessary lay down my life in defense and sustaining it's teachings. A step down from there it then asks; "What are some things you wouldn't die for, but would be willing to fight hard for?" I have begun to realize that close friends I have relationships with, the family unit, and healthy eating is where my fighting takes place. I'm starting too look confidently more forward to my future as it has become more clear to m

Surrounded by knowledge and opportunity

I'm not one who looks forward to blogging, but I just have to share what has just gone on right now. Now towards the end of a long day I've found myself on the floor, surrounded by volumes of books and knowledge. I'm filled with gratitude and certain curiosity of what the future could hold. I share this because in life sometimes we can find ourselves 'on the floor'. Maybe feeling like we just can't get up and we should just pack it in and call it a day. My message is to look around! There is opportunities surrounding us every day, we just have to have the courage to pick something up and try it. I have spent the last 15 minuets learning about the joy's of Real Estate investing! I have always been curious in this and many other things too, not sure if i'll pursue it, but was willing to do some research. I am beginning to realize more and more that answers to our biggest concerns won't just come all at once, but 'here a little, and there a little.&

Choose passion over money

What a wild week this has been. My thoughts and feelings are full of gratitude for the amazing institution of BYU-Idaho that is built upon principles of faith, passion, and sacrifice. After watching Guy Kawasaki's video on passion he said, "While at [school] life off your parents as long as you can". I, like Guy, am in quite a rush to get into the work force. He went on saying, "Go to the oversee's campus's as long as you can". Traveling can be an experience that broaden's your horizon and opportunities to contribute change the world. Out of the seven different habits given by Stephen Covey I would say "First seek to understand, then seek to be understood" has the most meaning to me personally. Deep down I want to be understood, clearly and without confusion, yet sometimes I think i'll come off too prideful and don't say anything. This miraculous formula of first, seeking to understand others, provides us with a way to come off appr
