Choose passion over money

What a wild week this has been. My thoughts and feelings are full of gratitude for the amazing institution of BYU-Idaho that is built upon principles of faith, passion, and sacrifice. After watching Guy Kawasaki's video on passion he said, "While at [school] life off your parents as long as you can". I, like Guy, am in quite a rush to get into the work force. He went on saying, "Go to the oversee's campus's as long as you can". Traveling can be an experience that broaden's your horizon and opportunities to contribute change the world. Out of the seven different habits given by Stephen Covey I would say "First seek to understand, then seek to be understood" has the most meaning to me personally. Deep down I want to be understood, clearly and without confusion, yet sometimes I think i'll come off too prideful and don't say anything. This miraculous formula of first, seeking to understand others, provides us with a way to come off approachable but also with purpose. I look forward to seeing where these principles will lead me. I feel very eager to go oversee's next semester and do humanitarian work through ILP. (International Language Programs) It is an opportunity that will give me business experience fundraising, as I will need to come up with the money, and also connecting with others. I feel a passion to help others in foreign country's, and an opportunity like this doesn't always come around.

What I've learned and experienced so far this week: This week my mind has been surprisingly calm and content. What makes this ironic is because my dad and sister have been down in Rexburg to visit me. So instead of doing the usual homework school grind, we have been partying! Surrounded by knowledge and opportunity

I'm not one who looks forward to blogging, but I just have to share what has just gone on right now. Now towards the end of a long day I've found myself on the floor, surrounded by volumes of books and knowledge. I'm filled with gratitude and certain curiosity of what the future could hold. I share this because in life sometimes we can find ourselves 'on the floor'. Maybe feeling like we just can't get up and we should just pack it in and call it a day. My message is to look around! There is opportunities surrounding us every day, we just have to have the courage to pick something up and try it. I have spent the last 15 minuets learning about the joy's of Real Estate investing! I have always been curious in this and many other things too, not sure if i'll pursue it, but was willing to do some research. I've greatly enjoyed the Stars and Stepping stones book. Starting from age 70-50, then 50-30, then 30 to today has brought great perspective on my life. It's helped set broad goals, along with glimpses of a vision in which I hope to accomplish. As Jeffry A. Thompson spoke about our callings in life he spoke of how important this idea is and throughout his time at BYU he's asked this question to hundreds of students. What is your calling in life? I have to admit, I usually get quite anxious when i'm asked this question. It is huge, and quite frankly I have some ideas, but am not one-hundred percent confident on any of them. He challenged us to remember heavenly father as the Shepard in our lives. By realizing that he will watch over us and guide us to our true calling in life has helped take away some of my anxiety!
